Great Wall of China (Dec 2004)

Great Wall of China (Dec 2004) by Steve Webel.
A large snow storm was approaching and whiting out everything in the distance.

This is a section of the Great Wall that is at MuTianYu. This section is a little farther out than other, more popular, sections, but it's worth the extra effort in my opinion. (Less tourists, better views) copy from (http://www.flickr.com/photos/webel/64438599/)

Great Wall of China, Mutianyu

Great Wall of China, Mutianyu by Christopher Chan.
The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties.

First built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi, Mutianyu Great Wall is older than the Badaling section of the Great Wall. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu section of Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. (Wikipedia)

Great Wall, Jinshanling

Great Wall, Jinshanling by Thomas Reichart.
As shown in the title photo of course the Great Wall was a top highlight of this trip! Here a picture of the Great Wall at Jinshanling 120 km northeast from Beijing is shown. The journey to this section of the wall is worth as this section is especially beautiful as it is in an impressive landscape as well.
The Jinshanling section of the Great Wall is 10.5 km long with 5 passes, 67 towers and 2 beacon towers.
